If there’s one thing sculptor Preston Jackson knows, it’s Miles Davis — enough to recreate the Alton-born jazz legend’s likeness for permanent display in downtown Alton, IL. The statue is set to be unveiled Sept. 12.
“It’s an honor to do something of Miles. I feel so honored by this,” Jackson said.
The Davis statue will stand 6 feet, 5 inches tall and is made out of bronze. … The sculptor used “a lot” of photographs of Davis to model the statue, which will depict the musician in his 30s. He also listened to Davis’ music while working on the statue in his Peoria studio.
