Miles Davis had a lifelong love for France and in July 1991, he became a Knight of their Legion of Honour, an award bestowed upon him by French culture minister, Jack Lang. A few days before receiving the award, Miles Davis played an electrifying set at the Vienne Jazz Festival with the Miles Davis Group, which was one of his final live performances before he passed away on September 28, 1991.
This previously unreleased performance is available for the first time on Merci, Miles! Live At Vienne on 2CD, 2LP, and digitally. The set includes two songs, “Penetration” and “Jailbait,” which were written by Prince, along with liner notes from music historian, journalist, and producer Ashley Kahn.
