Miles Electric recently performed a sold out show at SF Jazz Festival that included several standing ovations. The all-star group features Miles Davis alumni celebrating Davis’ electric music of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Led by the legendary trumpeter’s nephew, drummer Vincent Wilburn, Jr., and fronted by SFJAZZ Collective trumpeter Sean Jones, the Miles Electric band features many of the commanding musicians Davis tapped for his various jazz-rock ensembles, among them bassist Darryl Jones – who later played with Sting and currently performs with the Rolling Stones – former Davis collaborator, keyboardist, and musical director Robert Irving III, and percussionist Munyungo Jackson, a veteran of multiple Miles Davis tours and recordings from the late 80s and early 90s. They are joined by saxophone ace Antoine Roney, and SFJAZZ Collective member Sean Jones playing Davis’ parts on pieces from Jack Johnson, In a Silent Way and other classics with his own unique signature.
