MUSIC ICON MILES DAVIS IMMORTALIZED ON FOREVER STAMP

Postal Service and Hollywood Bowl Honor Miles Davis at June 27 Celebration

WHO: MILES DAVIS TAKES CENTER STAGE:

Tribute to Miles celebration includes Cheryl Davis, daughter of Miles; Erin Davis, son of Miles; Vince Wilburn, Jr. nephew of Miles; American Idol’s Joshua Ledet performing the National Anthem; A performance by critically-acclaimed jazz trumpeter Gabriel Johnson , musician/actor/author Henry Rollins, Robert Trujillo (Metallica) and jazz artist Marcus Miller, among others. Master of Ceremonies is Bubba Jackson from KJAZZ.

WHAT: Internationally renowned music icon Miles Davis honored with commemorative Forever Stamp. Official stamp dedication by Eduardo H. Ruiz, Jr., District Manager, Los Angeles United States Postal Service, with participation and remarks by Mark. H. Anderson, Postmaster, Los Angeles United States Postal Service and Arvind Manocha, Chief Operating Officer of Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.

The Miles Davis stamp and a stamp honoring French torch singer Edith Piaf are part of a joint issuance with the French postal service, La Poste.

COMMENTS: Miles Davis is one of the most innovative, influential and respected figures in the history of music. He is credited with changing the course of music four-to-five times and has been at the forefront of jazz for decades, setting trends and exploring musical styles from bebop through cool jazz, fusion and funk. His landmark album Kind Of Blue remains the most significant and greatest selling jazz album of all-time. Congress unanimously honored Kind Of Blue by the passing of H. Con. Res. 894, reaffirming the work as a national treasure.
