MILES DAVIS BOOTLEG 2: The Lost Quintet

SXSW Panel Celebrates 1969 Line-Up That Predicted The Future of Improvised Music
Thursday, March 14 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. – Austin Convention Center, Room 13AB

“Man, I wish this band had been recorded live because it was really a bad motherfucker,” said Miles Davis, legendary trumpeter and bandleader, who managed to shift the course of music several times throughout his career. He was describing his “Lost Quintet” of 1969-70: Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette. In fact, the group was recorded – and the proof of their collective magic is now available. With producers of the new Live In Europe 1969, Bootleg, Vol. 2 collection, first-hand accounts from Corea, Miles’s nephew Vince Wilburn Jr.,iconic hip hop duo The Pharcyde, and a rare live video from 1969, we will consider and celebrate the lineup that reflected the fever pitch of the era, and predicted the future of improvised music.
